Mystery Quest Taxan (Carry Lab)1989 bees castle chiroptera consoleclassix deadlywater dragonflies hedgehogs jumppads keys movingplatforms nofalldamage scorpions snakes "Mystery Quest" is the NES version of the Japanese [game=#183234]Hao Kun no Fushigi na Tabi[/game] for the Famicom Disk System. I don't like this platform game very much. The controls are ok, but the graphics and music are not really good and the game is rather monotonous. You have to retrieve several objects from four castles. The castles itself are maze-like platform levels with doors, mini-bosses which drop keys, breakable blocks etc. Between the castles are linear outdoor levels. The game has only a couple of standard enemies which repeat and repeat (except the mini-bosses, which at least change in each castle). The cartridge version has become a bit easier and they changed the music a little. However, considering this game was released about two years after the original Japanese FDS version it is absolutely not understandable why they left out the fifth and sixth castle as well as the last outdoor zone (cutting the game for about 1/3). That helps to make a disappointing game even worse. labelimageminimize

A young boy, Mark, returns from a ball game and meets a gargoyle alien named Bert. Bert chose Mark to help him out, so he took Mark to his own world and 'fused' with Mark's body.
Now, Mark, with the trusty power of his baseball bat (which can be used to hit projectiles, sending them back at the enemy) and the ability to turn into the flying laser-firing Bert for a short time from taking a special pill, must go through eight weird, colorful levels (the first level gets freaky halfway through, with happy faces turning into bloody skulls and creepy faces), and over 20 bosses ranging from just plain silly (like a potted plant that says 'Hello Baby', a bouncing piece of fried shrimp, and a giant kitten) to the really eldritch (a bunch of weird faces, the Grim Reaper, and the final eyeball boss).
What's even stranger about the game is its freaky and slightly disturbing (and a little gory) ending, and the fact that this Japanese game didn't come out in Japan.

Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.***A classic hit from Tecmo, Ninja Gaiden II satisfied the people's desire for more butt-kicking ninja action. With more enemies, power-ups, and awesome ninja skills, you could have even more fun testing your ninja mettle.
With good graphics and a kicking soundtrack, it was definitely a pleasure to the senses. The only downside was the difficulty of the game; it's downright frustrating at times.
Enemies always appear at the most unopportune times to push you into a hole or knock you off a wall, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you complete the game.

[27]***Great game geared towards a younger audience but unless you can play the game for 12 hours nonstop you will never finish the game. There is no password or save game state when the game includes tons of levels. However, the game is very challenging and that means lots of fun. Also with the advent of emulators and save-state features this could be useful in saving your spot and continuing later.
